Explore one of Tanzania's most rewarding national parks, a land of big baobab trees, big elephants and big cats. No wonder this ends up being the favorite park in Tanzania for many visitors. Sightings of wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, baboons, vervet monkeys and zebras are also almost guaranteed. Lions are plentiful here – Tarangire is home to one of Tanzania's healthiest lion populations.

While you'll have to work a little harder to see a cheetah or leopard, it will only enhance your excitement when you do. You can also look forward to classic safari scenery – savannah plains, river woodlands and rocky hills.

Today you'll visit Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most beautiful natural sights in Africa, a place where you'll experience otherworldly beauty with extraordinary wildlife. Watch as, from above, morning mist rolls up and over the crater rim, and notice how the steep walls suggest a place unlike any other.

Down below on the crater floor, explore a lost world preserved in a state of pristine isolation, one that shelters lions and hyenas, elephants and black rhinos, flamingos and golden jackals. There are also forests, hippo-filled lakes, a salt pan and hyena dens, and you'll never lose the sense that you've stumbled into a safari theme park where everything's wild.

Serengeti National Park

Lake Manyara is a world-class wildlife-viewing destination, and it offers you some really special safari experiences. For a start, it has one of the few lion populations in Africa which are known to climb trees. It's also famous for its elephants, and it's not unusual to drive along a forest track only to have to stop suddenly to allow an elephant family to pass.

The setting is similarly superb, with the park's thin but dense strip of forest wedged between a bird-rich lake and the steep cliffs of the Rift Valley escarpment.
