Arusha
Arusha is a vibrant city in the heart of northern Tanzania's safari country and the starting or ending point for most of our safaris, thanks to its proximity to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Nestled at the base of Mount Meru, the city enjoys a mild climate and is surrounded by lush farmland where coffee, bananas, maize, and beans are cultivated.
This bustling hub offers plenty to explore. Highlights include a stroll through the lively central market, a visit to the Tanzanite Museum, and sampling authentic Tanzanian cuisine at one of Arusha's many local eateries. Shoppers will enjoy the Maasai Market, where you can find brightly colored jewelry, hand-carved wooden pieces, paintings, and more. Don't forget to take home some locally grown Arabica coffee, a proud specialty of the region.
We also love to share Arusha's thriving community spirit. You can visit Shanga, a remarkable project based at the Arusha Coffee Lodge where recycled glass is transformed into beautiful works of art while providing employment for people with disabilities. Taswira is proud to support Umoja Tanzania, an inspiring youth initiative that equips vulnerable teens with education and essential life skills.

Arusha's Clock Tower is a notable landmark said to mark the halfway point between Cairo and Cape Town, a story linked to the colonial ambitions of Cecil Rhodes and his vision for a railway connecting the two cities. Today, the Clock Tower serves as a popular meeting point and a symbolic reminder of Arusha's historical and geographical significance.
