Lake Natron
Lake Natron National Park
Nestled near the Kenyan border, Lake Natron is a dramatic salt lake known for its otherworldly landscapes and adventurous activities. It is the only regular breeding ground in East Africa for the 2.5 million Lesser Flamingos, making it a birding spectacle like no other. For thrill-seekers, the towering presence of Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano, offers a challenging climb with breathtaking views from the summit.
The region is hot and arid, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C, yet it brims with cultural and natural wonders. Here, you can immerse yourself in Maasai culture by visiting a local village, explore on donkey rides and nature walks, or cool off in refreshing waterfalls hidden in the rugged terrain.

Special Interest
For the adventurous, climbing Ol Doinyo Lengai — the only active carbonatite volcano in the world — is an unforgettable experience. The trek begins around midnight, with the aim of reaching the summit by sunrise. From the top, you'll witness spectacular views as the first light illuminates the vast Rift Valley below, along with the unique colors and sounds of the volcano itself.
The descent takes around two hours, but it's important to note that this climb is steep, strenuous, and often along narrow paths. It is not suitable for those with medical issues, knee problems, or limited physical fitness. For those prepared, however, it's one of the most exhilarating and rewarding challenges in Tanzania.
Where to Stay
For an authentic and eco-friendly experience, we recommend Lake Natron Camp. Set in a stunning and remote landscape, the camp blends seamlessly with its surroundings, offering comfort while remaining environmentally conscious. Here, you can relax after a day of adventure, enjoy breathtaking views of the Rift Valley, and immerse yourself in the tranquility of this extraordinary setting.
