Packing Guide

Safari Clothing

  • Light, Breathable Clothes:
During the day, temperatures can be warm, especially in the safari plains and in the sun. Lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen are perfect for keeping cool. Choose neutral colors such as grey, brown, tan, or green to blend in with the environment and avoid attracting unwanted attention from wildlife.

  • Layers for Mornings and Evenings:
While daytime can be hot, mornings and evenings can get chilly, especially during the dry season (June to October). A warm jacket, sweater, and/or fleece will ensure you stay cozy during early game drives or evening meals.

  • Comfortable Safari Pants and Shorts:
Convertible pants that can zip off into shorts are ideal, as you'll want to stay comfortable whether on a game drive or walking tour. Bring long pants for the evenings and for visits to cultural sites to show respect to local communities.

  • Safari Shoes:
If you are doing a walking safari, we recommend a sturdy pair of boots. Boots are not necessary for game drives sturdy sandals are more than enough to ensure a comfortable safari.

  • Hat and Sunglasses:
A hat and sunglasses will protect you from the savannah sun and keep you more comfortable during your safari.

  • Swimwear:
Many safari lodges offer swimming pools. A swimsuit and cover-up will be useful if you're staying at a lodge or camp with a pool.

Additional Items to Enhance Your Safari

  • Binoculars
  • Camera and extra memory card
  • Small flashlight
  • Adapters and Power Bank: Tanzania uses type-G outlets; we also recommend a universal adapter. Additionally, a portable power bank can help keep your devices charged during long days in remote areas.

Health & Hygiene Essentials

  • Personal medications
  • Anti-Malarial Medication: Malaria is a risk in some parts of Tanzania, so it's important to discuss anti-malarial options with your healthcare provider before traveling.
  • Sunscreen and Lip Balm: Tanzania's equatorial location means the sun can be intense. Bring high-SPF sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and lip balm with UV protection to avoid sunburn.
  • Insect Repellent: Protect yourself from mosquitoes and other insects. A mosquito net may also be provided in most accommodations, but camping safari tents generally do not include nets.
  • Hand sanitizer and wet wipes
  • First Aid Kit Basics: Pack essentials such as band-aids, antiseptic ointment, pain relievers, and motion sickness tablets to stay prepared for any minor issues.

Documents and Money

  • Valid passport
  • Tanzania Visa: Travelers must obtain a Tanzania visa before arrival. Print a copy of your visa and carry it with you in-country.
  • Travel Insurance: While not mandatory, it offers peace of mind in case of medical emergencies, trip cancellations, or lost luggage.
  • Credit Cards and Cash: Credit cards are widely accepted in urban areas, but carry cash for tips, smaller purchases, and remote locations. US dollars are often accepted ensure they are in good condition (no tears or rips).
